Campus Access During Construction
Temporary arrangements for River Ayr walkway
As part of the construction process for the new Ayr student residences project, the University’s contractor will begin work in November 2010 on the sewer network which will serve the residences.
While we aim to complete this work with as little disruption as possible, due to the complexity of the engineering works planned, it will be necessary to temporarily close sections of the River Ayr walkway. A number of diversions will be put in place.
From week commencing Monday 1st November 2010, work on the surface water outfall from the residences site southwards into the River Ayr will commence. This work will be carried out in two sections, ensuring access across this area is maintainedthrough short diversions and temporary footpaths.
From week commencing Monday 8th November 2010, work will begin on the installation of the sewer along the River Ayr walkway to the new campus site. During this work the River Ayr walkway westbound from the Craigholm footbridge to the new campus site will be closed. Please note that north/south travel across the footbridge will be maintained at all times. There will also be temporary access to the River Ayr walkway eastbound from the Craigholm footbridge. Diversion signage shall be in place. It is expected that construction of the sewer will take around 3 months to complete. The River Ayr walkway westbound from the Craigholm footbridge will re-open in February 2011.
Should you require any more information on these works please contact Caroline Morrison on 0141 848 3177.
PEDESTRIAN and VEHICULAR ACCESS
During construction work on the new Ayr Campus, pedestrian and vehicle access to the campus may be subject to some restriction. Please refer to the access map in pdf format for routes of access to the campus.
CONSTRUCTION TRAFFIC
All construction traffic will enter the site at the lodge house entrance off Craigie Road. Construction traffic will adhere to a 5mph speed limit throughout the estate. Due to the size and complexity of the works Campus users will note increased traffic movements in the roads surrounding the estate especially on Craigie Road and the small road from the lodge house to the caravan site entrance.
HEALTH AND SAFETY SIGNAGE/FENCING
Please note that the contractor will be erecting estate-wide health and safety signage and security fencing. Please observe all health and safety/directional signage during the course of the works. Throughout the construction period it will be necessary on some occasions to close for a short period some of the footpaths; local diversions will be signposted.
The contractor has 24-hour security on site 365 days of the year and will erect security fencing/hoarding to ensure construction operations and members of the public are kept apart.
