Research

The campus is host to several research groups in education and in media, language and music, in addition to many staff members being part of wider national and international research projects.

Research in the School of Education has increased so significantly that the School will submit its work to the UK Research Assessment Exercise for the first time in 2008. Current research in the School focuses on:

  • Initial teacher education
  • Continuing professional development
  • Curriculum development
  • Citizenship education
  • Online learning
  • Early education
  • Physical education

Academic staff in the School of Media, Language and Music, are involved in a wide range of research activities in many areas including journalism, screen, sound and performance; culture and language; computer games and media, identity and culture. Staff have written and co-written an extensive number of publications and articles, both at home and abroad.

Research Focus:
Dr Andy Miah

Dr Miah worked in an advisory capacity on the cultural and educational aspects of London's bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games.

He and collegaues in the School also organised a 'Celebrity Culture' conference, the first of its kind, at which academics from across the globe considered the influence of celebrity in contemporary culture.
