"Environment, Health and Wellbeing"
Dr Harry Burns, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for Scotland, delivered a public lecture at University of the West of Scotland’s Paisley Campus on Tuesday 26 January 2010.
The lecture, ‘Environment, Health and Wellbeing’, was part of the University’s Inspiring People lecture series.
The event saw Dr Burns, who received an Honorary Doctorate from the University in November 2006 in recognition of his important contribution to Scottish society, outlining the biological pathways that are influenced by the way we perceive our environment.
As CMO Dr Burns has direct involvement in the development of health policy in Scotland, including prevention, health promotion, health protection and harm reduction. Prior to being appointed CMO in 2005, Dr Burns held the post of Director of Public Health for Greater Glasgow Health Board.
Professor Seamus McDaid, Principal and Vice Chancellor of University of the West of Scotland, said: “We were delighted that Dr Burns, the Scottish Government's principal medical adviser, delivered this public lecture. This event gave members of the public the chance to find out how the environment in which we live influences our health.”
