David Deakins Lecture
Thursday 12 March 2009
Professor David Deakins, Campus Director of University of the West of Scotland’s Dumfries Campus, delivered a public lecture at the University’s Dumfries Campus on Thursday 12 March 2009.
The lecture saw Professor Deakins consider the landscape for entrepreneurial debt finance post-2008 and also included the launch of his book, Entrepreneurship and Small Firms, in association with McGraw-Hill Publishing Company.
In addition to being Campus Director for the University’s Dumfries Campus, Professor Deakins holds a Chair in Enterprise Development. He has developed pioneering programmes in entrepreneurship and enterprise at the University and founded the UWS Enterprise Research Centre, which has an international reputation for its research.
The Centre provides a focus for research and teaching in entrepreneurship and enterprise. Its central activity lies with the development of applied research with small firms and entrepreneurs, for dissemination of research findings and for developing links with the enterprise community.
Commenting on the lecture Professor Deakins said: "I welcomed the opportunity to give a public lecture covering some of the issues that face entrepreneurs and small firms in 2009. I am pleased that this was the first UWS public lecture to be held in Dumfries, recognising the importance of small firms for the region and the role of the Campus which is critical for the development of the knowledge economy for the region.”
