New Interdisciplinary Research Unit on Crime, Policing and Social Justice officially launched

University of the West of Scotland (UWS) launched its new Interdisciplinary Research Unit on Crime, Policing and Social Justice (CPSJ) at the University’s Paisley Campus on Wednesday 28 September 2016.

The Festival of Enterprise will take place on the Paisley Campus Monday 23rd-Tuesday 24th May, 8.30am-6pm.

  • Top in the UK - 100 percent for overall student satisfaction

    UWS rated top in the UK for student satisfaction in the National Student Survey (NSS) 2016*  

    *UWS was rated as top in the UK for a number of undergraduate degree courses in terms of Overall Student Satisfaction in the National Student Survey (NSS) 2016. The following undergraduate courses were rated at 100% for Overall Student Satisfaction:

    • Aircraft Engineering
    • Community Education
    • Forensic Science
    • Midwifery
    • Sport & Exercise Science

    In addition, our Chemical Engineering course was rated top in Scotland and 3rd in the UK, and our Education, Psychology and our Drama-related courses were rated top in Scotland for Overall Student Satisfaction. Other highly rated courses were Politics whcih was rated 2nd in Scotland, as well as our Applied Biosciences, Chemistry and Civil Engineering courses.

    The results of the NSS 2016 (87.1% Overall Satisfaction) places UWS 48th out of 119 UK HE insitutions for student satisfaction which is a significant rise of 16 places fromn the previous year.

  • Research Degrees 2016-17

    In addition to the taught postgraduate courses offered, we offer a wide range of research opportunities for suitably qualified applicants and which are aligned to the Schools’ research areas of expertise. Opportunities exist to undertake research projects for the awards of:

    • Master of Research (MRes)
    • Master of Philosophy (MPhil)
    • Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

    Scholarships, Bursaries and Payment Incentives*

    For 2016-17 we are offering a wide range of scholarships and early payment incentives for Research students:

    • Our International Research Excellence Scholarship which is available to all full fee paying, non-EU students, reduces the annual research fees by £3500.
    • Our Early Payment Incentive (Tuition Fees) offers a 10% discount for all self-funding, full fee paying, non-EU students who have paid their tuition fees in full prior to, or on enrolment, providing this is within one week of formal classes commencing.
    • Our International Accommodation Bursary is also available to self-funding non-EU students on a full-time programme, who are eligible to apply for a 10% accommodation bursary which will be deducted from upfront payment of the cost of accommodation in the University's self-catering residences or flats.
