UCAS Applications
To apply for first year or advanced entry to a full-time undergraduate degree courses at the University, college students apply through Universities and Colleges Admission Service (UCAS).
Application Process
Generally, the closing date for applications to UCAS is 15th January of the year you wish to start University. If you have submitted your application by this date you should hear from any institution you applied to by the end of April.
The institution(s) will either accept (conditionally or unconditionally) or decline your application.
If you haven't applied by the 15th January deadline, you can still send in your application until 30th June, however this will be dependent on suitable vacancies remaining and may limit your course choices.
UCAS application forms are available from your college and local careers service. Alternatively, forms can also be requested from UCAS.
UCAS Extra
If you have applied to UCAS by the January deadline and find yourself without an offer, whether you have withdrawn from offers or been declined, then UCAS Extra allows you find a place without having to wait until Clearing (see below).
UCAS Extra operates from mid-March to the end of June. UCAS will inform you if you are eligible to enter into Extra. You then apply to one institution at a time via Extra. If you are unsuccessful, decline an offer, or do not receive an offer within 10 days of choosing a course through Extra, you can make a further application. If you do not secure a place during Extra, for whatever reason, you will then automatically become eligible for Clearing (see below). Find out more about UCAS Extra at www.ucas.ac.uk
Clearing Applications
If you hold no offers by 30th June, whether you have been unsuccessful, have declined a course or have applied late, then you will automatically be eligible for Clearing.
Clearing is the final round of application and occurs in August and September of the year the course starts. For more information see: www.ucas.ac.uk
