Student Support
At the University, we value the well-being of our students. Our support mechanisms are there to help you when you need it. From being assigned a personal tutor when you start through to careers advice when you graduate, we provide the services and support you'll need for your time at the University and beyond.
Childcare Support
The University operates a funding scheme across the campuses, to offer funding support to students for childcare.
The Childcare Fund covers a variety of arranged childcare, including childminders, private nurseries, extra hours in local authority nurseries and classes, wraparound care, out of school care, and playgroups.
For information visit Student Services.
Money
As finance issues are dependent on individual circumstances, students should assess their own entitlement due to the varying funding regulations.
Normally, if you have received funding for your HNC/HND and your circumstances haven't changed, your funding should continue when you study at university, however please check with Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS) regarding your position on funding. When contacting SAAS, it's a good idea to have your HNC/HND award reference number handy.
As a general rule regarding funding, if you have been resident in Scotland for at least three years before commencement of the course (for purposes other than full-time education), you will not pay any course tuition fees. In addition, you may be eligible for a non-repayable bursary as well as a partly means-tested loan.
If you are a lone parent or have dependants, you may be able to get an extra non-repayable, supplementary grant. To find out if you are eligible for any financial support, including student loans your first port of call should be SAAS.
N.B. 1 Students from England and Wales should refer to the Department for Education and Skills website at: www.dfes.gov.uk/studentsupport. Students from Northern Ireland should contact their local Education and Library Board.
N.B. 2 Other funding arrangements operate for the University's DipHE/BSc Nursing and Midwifery programmes. Contact SAAS for more details.
