Studying part-time at UWS lets you get ahead in your career at the same time as getting on with your life.
You can choose from a wide range of modules in a number of disciplines, working towards an undergraduate, postgraduate or postgraduate research degree.

How does it work?
Academic, Credit-bearing Studies
With part time learning you will complete modules and meet the same requirements as full-time students.
You will attend lectures and tutorials at one of our four campuses in the west of Scotland and submit coursework and sit exams alongside your full-time student colleagues.
The rest of your learning is independent, directed study which provides a lot of flexibility and means you decide when you want to study.
Part-time learning is flexible and it will be up to you how quickly you decide to complete your studies. Our education guidance advisers can help you decide how many modules/credits is right for you.
Teaching and assessment
You will attend lectures and tutorials on campus or online alongside your full-time student colleagues, and complete coursework in your own time.
Coursework is submitted electronically and module exams are completed at same time as full-time students
Academic credit and awards
Taught, academic modules at UWS are typically worth 20-credit points each. Other module arrangements exist eg. 10-credit points and 60-credit points.
Full-time students normally complete six modules per year (120 credits) but this is flexible for part-time students
Fees
Part-time students typically pay tuition fees on a pro rata basis, paying up-front for each module. This helps students to spread the cost of part-time learning and allows you to control the pace of your studies.
Standard course fees (per 20-credit module)
Undergraduate – £305-£2560
Postgraduate – £600-£3035
These fees are dependent upon your tuition fee status and also upon your chosen course of study. You are directed to look at the corresponding (undergraduate or postgraduate) course page for details of modular study tuition fees. Health-related and credit-bearing modules (again both undergraduate and postgraduate level) are listed on the dedicated Health-related modules webpage.
Eligible students may also be able to access discretionary funding to help with other costs such as books, travel and childcare.

Funding Support for NHS Scotland Employees
As a leading provider of professional education for the health sector, UWS has Service Level Agreements (SLAs) in place with some Health Boards to provide nursing and health-related modules and programmes at the University of the West of Scotland.
You need to apply to your employer to request SLA funding each academic year – funding is only granted for one academic year at a time. Once approved by the SLA lead at your Health Board, they will inform UWS to exempt the appropriate tuition fee.
Please visit the appropriate intranet site for your Health Board for further information. Note that the Health Boards normally open up their SLA funding application system around March/April each year for the next academic year ie the September that year, through to the August the following year. Most Health Boards also have closing dates, so please check out your NHS-Health Board intranet site for more information to avoid disappointment.
