Scholarship and Incentive Schemes for International Students

We have a wide range of international scholarships and full fee paying (non-EU) international students may qualify for an award of £1,500 on receipt of a completed application with associated documentation. Our admissions officers will assess your application and you will be notified in your offer letter if you have been successful.

International Accommodation Bursary - £1,000
Award amount:

£1,000 deducted from the cost of accommodation in the University's self-catering residences or flats.

Eligibility:

Self-financing overseas (non-EU) students on a full-time programme are eligible to apply for a £1000 accommodation bursary. The accommodation bursary is a contribution towards the cost of accommodation in the University's self-catering halls of residence or flats and does not apply to private accommodation outside the University. Students will not be entitled to a 'rebate' if they choose to move out of residences. Students must stay in University accommodation for 38 weeks of the academic calendar.

The deduction of the £1000 accommodation bursary is subject to receipt of the application form and all University terms and Conditions being met by the student.

Details of award:

The bursary is applied at £500 per semester for your continuous stay within University accommodation. The bursary is based on payment of students tuition fees: if tuition fees are paid in full in TR1 then £1000 will be credited; if 50% is paid then £500 will be credited. Bursaries are subject to all University Terms and Conditions being met.

As an international student, you will receive Accommodation Bursary details with your decision letter when you have been offered a place at the University.

Early Payment Incentive - Tuition Fees
Award amount:

10% discount on tuition fees*.

Eligibility:

All full fee paying overseas (non-EU) students who have paid their fees in full prior to, or on enrolment, providing this is within one week of formal classes commencing, will be entitled to a 10% discount on tuition fees.

Early Payment Incentive - Accommodation
Award amount:

5% discount on the full year's accommodation fee. Full fee paying overseas students would also be entitled to the accommodation bursary of £1,000.

Eligibility:

All full fee paying international (non-EU) students staying in the University's residential accommodation. To be entitled to the 5% discount, your accommodation fees for the trimester must be paid in full prior to, or on enrolment, provided this is within one week of formal classes commencing. The accommodation costs for 2011/12 have not yet been set but will be around £80 per week before discount (see International Accommodation Bursary section - approximately £1,000 for the session).

International Undergraduate Scholarships
(25% off tuition fees)
Award amount:

25% fee reduction upon entry into year one of an undergraduate degree programme. You will also be entitled to a further 10% discount if you pay your fees in full, prior to or on enrolment, providing this is within one week of formal classes commencing (or within one week of an alternative start date negotiated with the University).

Eligibility:

Scholarships available for full fee paying students from India and Pakistan. Applicants should have received an offer for entry into the first year of an undergraduate degree at the University of the West of Scotland.

Details of award:

6 scholarships are available. Applicants must be applying for entry into first year. This award is for one year only.

Application procedure:

Applicants should apply for the scholarship after they have received an offer and accepted a place at the University. To apply for the scholarship, please complete an International Undergraduate Scholarship Application Form.

The deadline for applications is 30 June 2011, for courses beginning in September 2011.

Undergraduate Incentive Scheme
(50% off tuition fees)
Award amount:

50% fee discount for students who have completed three years of study at the University and are progressing to Honours or MSc level. You will be entitled to a further 10% discount if you pay your fees in full, prior to or at enrolment, provided this is within one week of formal classes commencing. You will also be entitled to apply for the International Undergraduate Scholarship (see above) upon entry into first year.

Eligibility:

All full fee paying (non-EU) international students who have completed three consecutive years of study at the University will be eligible for the Incentive Scheme when they progress to fourth year Honours or MSc level. Please note that this incentive scheme applies to students who have entered the University from September 2008 onwards.

Details of award:

Students entering first year of an undergraduate programme at the University and completing three years of study will be entitled to a 50% reduction in fees if they progress to the fourth year (Honours level) or to a one year MSc programme at the University.

Application procedure:

After completion of three years of study, you will be automatically be entitled to a 50% reduction in fees. You do not need to complete an application form.

Postgraduate Fee Offer
(10% off tuition fees)
Award amount:

10% discount on fees for full fee paying (non-EU) international students who wish to progress from undergraduate study to postgraduate study. You will also be entitled to a further 10% discount if you pay your fees in full prior to, or on enrolment, providing this is within one week of formal classes commencing.

Eligibility:

All full fee paying (non-EU) international students who have successfully completed one year of undergraduate study progressing to postgraduate study.

Details of award:

10% will be deducted from fees upon progression to postgraduate study.

Application procedure:

You will need to complete an online postgraduate application form and have received an offer of a place on a postgraduate programme at the University.

International Research Excellence Scholarship
(50% off research tuition fees)
Award amount:

50% discount on full Research tuition fees of £10,500 for a maximum of three years. You would also be entitled to a further 10% discount if you pay your fees in full, prior to or on enrolment.

Eligibility:

Full fee paying self-funding (non-EU) international students. You must have applied for and been offered a place on a full time Higher Degree by research programme at the University. This scholarship cannot be combined with any other UWS scholarship.

Details of award:

A limited amount of awards will be available for specific research areas and will be granted on academic merit.

External Scholarships (administered by the University)

DEPARTMENT FOR INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT COMMONWEALTH SHARED SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME
Award amount:

The scholarship will cover tuition fees, travel and living expenses.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for the scholarship, you must hold a first degree at either first class or upper second level. You must be a national of a Commonwealth developing country and not living or studying in a developed country. You must be willing to return to your own country to work or study. You will need to provide evidence of English Language ability e.g.IELTS, TOEFL certificate.

Details of award:

You must hold an unconditional offer of a place at postgraduate level at the University. Priority is given to subjects related to the economic, social and technological development of the students' home country. In light of this, preference will be given to applicants applying to Biotechnology, Waste Management with Environmental Management or Quality Management.

External Scholarships (not administered by the University)

Scotland's saltire scholarship

Award amount:

The scholarship amount is for £2,000 and can be awarded for one year of study.

Eligibility:

The scholarship opportunity is open to Canadian, Chinese, Indian and US nationals and is aimed at encouraging bright, talented and hard working individuals to live, work and study in Scotland. You must be able to demonstrate that you can meet the cost of living and the cost of the remaining tuition fees.

Details of award:

The scholarships are designed to support the promotion of Scotland as a learning and science nation, and are therefore, targeted at the priority sectors of:
- Creative industries
- Life sciences
- Technology
- Financial services
- Renewable and clean energy

This includes a wide range of subjects across all of Scotland's universities and higher education institutions.

Application procedure:

You must first apply to the University of the West of Scotland and then to the scholarship programme. The scholarship offer will be subject to obtaining a confirmed offer of admission from a Scottish university. For an application form please visit the website below.

Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP)
Award amount:

This varies depending on the award you are applying for.

Eligibility:

Scholarships are offered to students from certain commonwealth countries. For details of which countries are participating, please see the CSFP website detailed below.

Details of award:

The awards assist Commonwealth students of high calibre to study in other Commonwealth countries. Some countries prioritise certain areas of study. You will need to check what the priorities are in your home country before applying.

British Marshall Scholarships
Award amount:

University fees, cost of living expenses, annual book grant, thesis grant, research and daily travel grants, fares to and from the United States and, where applicable, a contribution towards the support of a dependent spouse.

Eligibility:

High caliber students from the United States . Students should hold a first degree from an accredited 4-year college in the United States.

Details of award:

40 awards available for students from the United States. Study can be in any discipline. Awards are tenable for 22 months. The scholarships are funded by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and administered in the UK by the Marshall Aid Commemoration Commission.
