If you are traveling to Scotland by plane, please be aware that there are two airports in the area; Glasgow International Airport (GLA) and Glasgow Prestwick International Airport (PIK)
Travel to Ayr
From Glasgow International Airport
To travel to Ayr Campus from Glasgow International Airport, you can take a taxi from the airport to Paisley Gilmour Street Train Station. The cost of the taxi will be in the region of £8 - £10. Alternatively, you can take bus service 60 from the front of the airport to Paisley Gilmour Street Train Station. From Paisley Gilmour Street Station, you can take a train directly to Ayr Station (this is the final station on the route). The journey takes 45 minutes. Trains operate every 30 minutes (less frequently on a Sunday).
Ayr Residence is based on Ayr Campus and is located a 5 minute taxi journey from Ayr Station. There is a taxi rank located outside Ayr Station. The cost of the journey will be in the region of £5.
If you arrive into Glasgow International Airport after the last train to Ayr has left, you will need to take a taxi to Ayr. In an airport taxi this journey will cost around £70.
From Glasgow Prestwick International Airport
Glasgow Prestwick International Airport is located in the town of Prestwick, which is located beside the town of Ayr. A taxi journey from the airport to Ayr Campus will take 20 minutes and will cost in the region of £8-£12. There is a taxi rank located in front of the airport. Taxi firms can also be called directly from the airport. Please ask airport staff for assistance, if required.

Travel to hamilton
From Glasgow International Airport
From Glasgow International Airport, you can take a bus to Glasgow Central railway station. From Glasgow Central railway station you can take a train to Hamilton West. The train will leave from the Lower Level platforms in Glasgow Central. A single journey will cost approximately £3.
Hamilton Residence and Campus is located in walking distance from Hamilton West railway station (5-10 minute walk). Exit the station and turn left into Clydesdale Street, follow the one-way street around to the right into Douglas Street and at the traffic lights turn left into Almada Street. Walk down to the second street on your left which is Barrack Street. The Residence, at 2 Barrack Street, is the large brick building on the corner of Almada Street and Barrack Street. Access to the building is from Barrack Street. If you wish to take a taxi from the station instead of walking, please contact the Accommodation Office in advance of your journey, for advice and for taxi details.

To travel from Glasgow International Airport to Hamilton by taxi will cost around £45.
From Glasgow Prestwick International Airport
There is a direct rail link between Glasgow Prestwick International Airport and Glasgow Central Station. Please show your flight itinerary or boarding pass to receive a discount on rail travel. From Glasgow Central Station you can take a train to Hamilton West. The train will leave from the Lower Level platforms in Glasgow Central Station. A single journey will cost approximately £3.
The train journey from Glasgow Prestwick International Airport to Glasgow Central takes around 50 minutes. Trains operate approximately every 30 minutes, for most of the day, and every hour on a Sunday. The final train, bound for Glasgow, leaves Prestwick International Airport at 23.08 Monday - Saturday, and at 23.07 on a Sunday (please confirm train times before commencing your journey).
If you arrive into Glasgow Prestwick International Airport between 23:08 and 05.48 (08.50 on a Sunday) you will be required to take a taxi to Hamilton. Taxis can be telephoned from the airport at all hours. Please ask airport staff for assistance, if required. The journey will cost approximately £55 - £70. We recommend that you agree a price with the driver before embarking on the journey.

Travel to Paisley
From Glasgow International Airport
Glasgow International Airport is situated in Paisley, 10 minutes by taxi from Underwood Residence and 15 minutes by taxi from Thornly Park Residence. In an airport taxi, the cost to Underwood Residence will be around £12 and the cost to Thornly Park Residence will be around £14.
From Glasgow Prestwick International Airport
There is a direct railway link between Glasgow Prestwick International Airport and Paisley. The journey takes 40 minutes. You should take the Glasgow bound train. Trains operate approximately every 30 minutes, for most of the day, and every hour on a Sunday. The final train, bound for Paisley, leaves Prestwick International Airport at 23.08 Monday - Saturday, and at 23.07 on a Sunday (please confirm train times before commencing your journey). All passengers receive discounted rail tickets on proof of air travel (e.g. flight itinerary or boarding pass).
On arrival at Paisley Gilmour Street Station, you should take a taxi directly to your residence. The taxi rank is located outside the station, in County Square. Underwood Residence is a 5 minute taxi journey from the station (the cost will be in the region of £6). Thornly Park Residence is around 10 minutes from the station (the cost will be approximately £8).
If you arrive into Glasgow Prestwick International Airport between the hours of 23:08 and 05.48 (08.50 on a Sunday), you will be required to take a taxi to Paisley. Taxis can be telephoned from the airport at all hours. Please ask airport staff for assistance, if required. We recommend that you agree a price with the driver before embarking on the journey. The cost of the fare will be in the region of £55 - £70.

travel by air - from London Airports
Glasgow is 400 miles (650km) from London. If you arrive into London by air you can take a connecting flight to Glasgow International Airport or to Glasgow Prestwick International Airport. There are frequent shuttle services from all of the London airports, by many airlines.
The Underground (Tube) service and British Rail operate train services, from London airports, into London City Centre from where you can access connecting bus, rail and road networks to Glasgow.
travel By coach (from london)
There is a direct coach service from London to Glasgow. Coaches will arrive into Buchanan Street Bus Station, located in Glasgow City Centre. From there, connecting services can be taken to Paisley and Ayr.
There is a coach service from London to Hamilton, and a service from London to Dumfries, travelling via Birmingham and Carlisle.

travel by car (from london)
The M25, M6 and then the M74 motorways are the most direct road routes from London to Glasgow. The M8 motorway links Paisley to Glasgow and the rest of Scotland as well as to the south (via the M74).
The M77/A77 road will take you from Glasgow to Ayr in under an hour.

By Train (from london)
You can travel directly to Glasgow from London Euston station and from London Kings Cross station. The journey takes between 4 hours 30 minutes and 5 hours 30 minutes. From Glasgow, there are frequent connections to Ayr, Hamilton and Paisley.
You can travel from London Euston Station to Dumfries, via Carlisle. The journey takes around 5 hours.

travel By Sea
If travelling overland from Europe you will probably enter the UK via the ports of Dover, Hull or Newcastle and then travel to Scotland by coach or train.
The best mode of transport, based on the duration and cost of the journey, will depend on where you are travelling from and where you are travelling to: Ayr; Dumfries; Hamilton or Paisley.
