6 Part-Time Studentships in Business

Contact: mike.danson@uws.ac.uk

At a time of significant changes and challenges to the private, public and voluntary sectors in Scotland, there are many issues which would benefit from longer term consideration and research. Consultations and internal reviews can suggest particular developments and strategies, but deeper and broader analyses are often not possible within the timeframes and resources available. This scheme gives an opportunity for organisations to benefit from access to studentships which could explore particular issues with academic collaboration.

A key UWS Business School agenda is delivering a strategy for external engagement with all of its different stakeholder groups. This strategy is very extensive since there are a large number of external stakeholders with whom the Business School engages. To complement and support this strategy, six part-time studentships are being offered on a fee waiver basis to accommodate staff from a range of these organisations wanting to undertake a research degree. This scheme supplements other means of engagement and serves to offer enhanced research capacity to stakeholder organisations and to raise the profile and reputation of the School amongst these regional stakeholders. Studentships will be available in all Business School disciplines and would benefit from economies of scale and access to the existing PgCert in Research Methods.

Initially, there will be a focus on West of Scotland organisations; however the Business School has another very wide set of external relationships with Universities and other external institutions in other countries and with other organisations outside the west of Scotland and students on this scheme will benefit from and interact with these international collaborations. Appropriate experienced supervisors for this scheme will be drawn from relevant disciplines.

Within the context of research degree activity, applications for these studentships are welcome from candidates from any business or social science discipline from both regional and representative organisations in the west of Scotland.
