The University's 3rd Annual Research Conference
The event, saw all seven of the University's academic Schools showcase their research, providing research staff in the University with a forum to highlight new areas of research that they are working on. The Conference was split into four themed areas :
- Health & Social Care
- Science and Technology
- Arts & Media and Education
- Business/Law and European Studies
The feedback showed that 'it brought people together who would normally not speak to each other' and 'some of the talks could be viewed from a multi-disciplinary angle'.
Four high profile keynote speakers lead each themed session:
Professor Victor R Preedy of King's from College London's Nutritional Sciences Research Division, delivered his new research findings in a presentation entitled, 'Alcohol Related Disease — Not Every Drinker and Not Just Liver and Brain'
Professor Chris J Packard, Director (Research & Development) of NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, presented on the 'Horizons of NHS Clinical Research in Greater Glasgow and Clyde'
Professor Brian Boyd, Professor of Education of the University of Strathclyde's Department of Curricular Studies, discussed 'Media Representation of Educational Issues'
Professor Henrik Halkier, Head of History, International and Social Studies, Aalborg University, Denmark, presented on 'Tourism and Regional Development — Policy Segmentation or Strategic Synergy?'.

An award for Outstanding Achievement to Research at the University of West of Scotland was presented to Professor Robert Chapman and Professor Frank Placido.
Significant Contribution to Research Awards were presented to Professor John Lockhart, Professor Mike Danson and Professor Colin Fyfe.
