Microscale Sensors Connect R&D to Industry

Collaboration with academic groups and commercial organisations, at local, national and international levels has been part of the MSS Group strategy since the foundation of the Group, and they have established a range of joint projects through the wide variety of publicly and privately funded mechanisms open to University research groups.

MSS Group has built up a commercial database of contracts through conferences and exhibitions and leveraging funds from knowledge transfer initiatives to develop business relationships. Referrals from clients are also important for capacity building.

As part of the strategy to build further capacity for contract research and commercial consultancy the group now have a new product development engineer, taking research outputs through to working prototypes.

A consulting applications engineer has also been appointed and is available for short and medium term R&D projects, and also working on a project in collaboration with Glasgow University on a modular system of 2D ultrasonic arrays with integrated integrated electronics and signal processing for 3D imaging.

The new posts have already resulted in increased interaction with industry and have generated new projects. The group has been granted a number of TTOM awards which are funding feasibility studies and helping develop new partnerships with SMEs.
