Professor Derek Carson, Dean of the School of Media, Culture & Society

The School of Media, Culture & Society is where social sciences and the creative and cultural industries meet. Staff and students in the School are creating a centre of excellence in media, culture, and society education, knowledge creation, exchange, and creative practice.

We are proud of our exciting and contemporary courses of study, most of which hold industry and professional body accreditation. We invest in the potential of our students to shape their own future. Our practice based, research informed courses ensure our students enjoy an internationalised curriculum. Our graduates are empowered to make both cultural and social change.

Students benefit from access to excellent, industry-standard facilities. Our staff have senior practitioner experience in the disciplines in which they teach, and international reputations in their field of research.

The multi-disciplinary research teams based in our Centre for Social Science and Creativity conduct cutting-edge research. We take a multi-disciplinary approach to understanding the individual, social and cultural dimensions of contemporary life.

We value our networks and relationships with professional partners, government and the third sector. These ensure our work remains relevant and our graduates are prepared to succeed in a changing global environment.

At UWS we dare to be different. Join us at one of our four Scottish campuses or our new London campus for an exciting and unique university experience that puts you, the student, at the centre of all that we do.
