Equipment Loan Conditions

  • The University may lend you equipment to help you undertake assignments, but the University is not obliged to lend you equipment for that purpose.

We try our best to help you with your coursework, but we cannot guarantee that equipment will always be available at the times you wish.

  • Because we consider that we have provided sufficient equipment for students who plan ahead, we do not consider that lack of access to equipment provides sufficient grounds for an extension to the submission dates of assignment.
  • The University does not insure equipment on your behalf, and you will be expected to make good any losses if the equipment is lost, stolen or accidentally damaged while on loan to you.

If you experience a technical failure when using the equipment carefully, that is a different matter, and should be reported to staff when you return the equipment.

  • You may not use the equipment we lend to you under this scheme for any commercial activity. You may only use the equipment for classwork or for preparation of an assignment as specified by your lecturer.

The University does not lend equipment for commercial activities, except by special arrangement. If you wish to arrange a commercial hire, you should talk first to Dr. Marcus Bowman.

  • You must not leave equipment unattended at any time. In particular, you must not leave equipment in an unoccupied car (including leaving it in the boot).

Where you retain equipment overnight, you must store the equipment in a locked room or a locked house which is occupied.

  • If you do not accept these conditions of loan, you cannot borrow equipment from the School of Media.

As an alternative, there are a number of commercial companies from whom you may wish to hire equipment and who often offer advantageous terms to students.
