Student Involvement

The purpose of student involvement is to enhance the quality of students' educational experiences and the University considers the support and involvement of students in the learning opportunities available and in quality assurance and enhancement activities to be a key priority. Students have various opportunities to present views on their learning experiences, and staff are encouraged to reflect on their teaching and professional skills enabling them to identify areas for improvement and build on identified strengths to enhance further the students' academic experience. The University is committed to continuing the good work already developed in Subject Health Review (SHR) arrangements and the partnership working between QEU and SAUWS, together with Schools to continue to develop student engagement in quality and enhancement activities.

The University considers the involvement of students in quality assurance and enhancement activities to be a priority and has been working proactively in partnership with the Students' Association of the University of the West of Scotland (SAUWS) over the last five years to develop this. By getting involved and giving us feedback, students can enhance the quality of their educational experience and make a difference for future students.

The Student Representation Strategy has been developed by SAUWS and QEU to clearly define the types of student representation opportunities available to students across the University. It aims to create a flexible yet committed approach to student representation that understands and seeks to meet the needs of the 21st century student.

Student representation and engagement opportunities exist across a range a University committees and Practitioner Groups as well as Faculty Academic Management Groups (FAMG). Often more directly relevant to students, are the feedback arrangements closest to teaching delivery. These include:

  1. Student/Staff Liaison Groups (SSLGs)
  2. Subject Development Groups (SDGs)
  3. SAUWS Student Representative Council (SRC)

Throughout the academic year, SAUWS and QEU support all student representatives via the organisation of sparqs training and through the Student Rep Blackboard site.
