Accounting & Finance Research Group

The Accounting and Finance Group is located in the Business School and has a strong tradition research having submitted in the national Research Assessment Exercises of 1996, 2001, and 2007.

Our work is focused on four inter-related areas:

  1. Accounting theory and history;
  2. Accounting education;
  3. Accounting profession, critical theory and organisations;
  4. Financial services.

Over the past decade the accounting and finance team has made a major contribution to developing the research culture within the University. In particular, the group was the only unit of assessment to score a 5 within the University at the 2001 RAE.

Accounting and finance education needs to have up-to-date research informed curriculum to support the evidence-based accounting and finance profession. In addition the provision and learning environment need to promote enquiring students and develop and support research activity within this provision. The School Research Strategy actively supports an increase in staff becoming more active in research and promoting research active students.
