Management Training and Development Programmes
West of Scotland Management Centre
In today's highly competitive business world more and more employers are recognising that the key to success lies in their people, and individuals are recognising that the key to their success lies in developing themselves. The UWS Business School, through its Management Centre, is committed to helping individuals and organisations to realise their potential for growth.
Highly Vocational Academic Courses
All of the Business School courses have a highly vocational and real-world emphasis. Some programmes such as the Executive MBA, postgraduate Certificate in Workplace Organisation and the postgraduate Certificate in Law are designed specifically for busy working people. The courses are highly relevant to students in the workplace and delivery is very flexible and does not require any time off work. Such courses demonstrate the Business School commitment to giving mature students greater access to lifelong learning.
Consultancy
The West of Scotland Management Centre, as part of the Business School, has the expertise to undertake consultancy projects across a wide spectrum of human resource and general management issues. These range from training needs analysis to organisational restructuring, and from psychometrics to bespoke training.
Our service, like our courses, can be tailored to meet organisations' individual needs - perhaps partnering with clients to identify priority areas for staff development and designing customised training solutions or, more simply, scheduling courses to address a skills gap the client has already identified.
Applied Research Projects
Given our close links with industry, the Business School undertakes many applied research projects. As part of the University we can draw on a large resource pool and have the expertise to handle large projects of a complex nature.
Land Valuation Information Unit
The Land Valuation Information Unit is a commercial operation within UWS Business School. It researches the Scottish property market and makes the research available through the Interactive Scottish Property Online Information Service (I-SPOLIS). Designed for property professionals and house hunters alike, users can get full access to all information gathered and analysed as well as access a number of statistical reports on the behaviour of the Scottish property market.
Work Placement
The University was an early pioneer of the benefits of work experience for students. For over 25 years we have offered paid work experience to students as part of their studies. The Placement Office, which is based within the Business School, every year places students in a wide range of organisations, from small local enterprises to national and international corporations.
Knowledge Transfer Partnership
Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) is a Government scheme developed to encourage transfer between Higher Education and business. Organisations hire a high-achieving graduate for a 2-year period and benefit from regular consultancy support from a University academic and a development budget for the graduate as part of the package. While the programme is primarily targeted at small and medium sized enterprises, up to 20% of the programmes can be with large organisations. KTP has an excellent track record of realising business development in companies and increasing their profitability significantly.
Seminars and Conferences
The UWS Business School organises and participates in many industry-relevant seminars and conferences.
In addition, we offer the exceptional facilities of the West of Scotland Management Centre to organisations for their own events through our competitive hire packages. Craigie House, home to the AMC, is a Grade-A listed mansion set in parkland adjacent to Ayr town centre. The building was refurbished at a cost of £2 million and provides a professional, yet relaxed, setting for business events, large or small.
