Scottish Institute for Enterprise

The Scottish Institute for Enterprise - SIE is an ambitious collaboration involving all of 20 Higher education institutions to support student enterprise and the commercial exploitation of technology.

SIE Homepage

The programmes of SIE are designed to build on the expertise of the thirteen universities and further the broad aims of fostering the commercialisation of research and new ideas and stimulating scientific enterprise, incorporating the teaching of enterprise into the science and engineering curricula, and supporting centres of excellence for the transfer and expoitation of scientific knowledge and expertise.

  • Student Advisory Service - Special Needs - Staff will work with students, academic departments and other support services to endeavour to help students with a disability to maximise their potential.
  • CAPD - Gives every student access to a computer and to the internet. Each student has a log-in account giving them access to e-mails, course information, word processing and multimedia software and printers.
  • University of Paisley Innovation and Research Office (IRO) - The university office responsible for research, and commercialisation of research at Paisley.

Other UK Enterprise Centres

  • The Bristol Enterprise Centre- Based at the University of Bristol, this centre has strong links with Hewlett Packard and the University of Illinois.
  • Cambridge Entrepreneurship Centre (CEC) - The Centre operates throughout the University of Cambridge and in partnership with the local business community. It has also formed strategic partnerships with MIT's Entrepreneurship Centre and CERAM - the business school for Sophia Antipolis.
  • The Centre for Scientific Enterprise London - The CSEL was created at the start of 2000 as a joint venture between University College London (UCL) and the London Business School.
  • The Imperial College Entrepreneurship Centre - This centre is based within Imperial College. Initial programmes are concentrating particularly in the area of Medicine and Health Management, and in Physics.
  • The Manchester Science Enterprise Centre - UMIST Manchester Science Enterprise Centre is a partnership between UMIST and the University of Manchester with support from Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Salford. Hosted the first meeting of the Science Enterprise Centres in November 2000 and is closely associated with the professional business community in this region.
  • The Mercia Institute of Enterprise - Warwick and Birmingham University are the main partners, with involvement from the Universities Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, Coventry, Aston, Keele and Central England in Birmingham.
  • The Northern Ireland Centre for Entrepreneurship - A collaboration between the University of Ulster and Queen's University Belfast, the centre has links with the University of Twente, and the University of California at San Jose.
  • Oxford Entrepreneurs - Oxford University's Science Enterprise Centre is housed within the Said Business School, and has links with the University of California at Berkeley.
  • The North East Centre for Scientific Enterprise - Based on collaboration between Durham and Newcastle Universities, NECSE also involves the Universities of Teeside, Sunderland and Northumbria.

  • The University of Nottingham Institute for Enterprise and Innovation - UNIEI was launched in June 2000
  • The White Rose Centre for Enterprise - This centre is latest in a series of 'White Rose' collaborations, linking the Universities of Sheffield, Leeds and York

  • Elevator Fantastic new networking club for young entrepreneurs in the West of Scotland. Always busy, enjoyable and packed with freebies advice and contacts. Highly recommended, and regularly attended by the Paisley Student Enterprise Association.
  • Connect -The website of Connect Scotland, an organisation that helps develop business and management skills and provides networking opportunities for those setting up technology businesses, including Connect Springboard where entrepreneurs present their pitch to potential investors.
  • Student Enterprise Association - The primary aim of the society is to create a focus for entrepreneurial activity within the University of Paisley. The society will allow people to get together and share ideas, inspiration, motivation and enthusiasm. The society provides a positive environment in which students can discuss any ideas or issues relating to entrepreneurship.
