About Us

The Centre for Academic & Professional Development works to enhance and develop learning and teaching across the University. In particular, we:

  • promote excellence in student learning through effective teaching and assessment,
  • promote reflective pedagogic practice and engagement with learning and teaching research,
  • run the PgCert in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education and support staff who aim to gain membership of Higher Education Academy,
  • help the Academic Schools in providing high quality learning support to students, including advice on key skills and effective learning,
  • run the new Effective Learning Tutor service for all students on a multi-campus basis,
  • promote an inclusive curriculum,
  • manage the University's Blackboard virtual learning environment, and promote the development of elearning and blended learning,
  • take a lead in promoting and supporting innovation and research in learning and teaching, including hosting conferences and developing projects (such as the Classroom of the Future and ISLE Project),
  • lead the development of the My Linc system for Personal Development Plans for students.
