Copyright

Over the past few years the University Library has increased the amount of licences it holds for educational and research purposes and it is a legal requirement for every member of the University to act within the terms of these licences and to adhere to copyright law at all times in order to avoid copyright infringement.

For information on what you can do regarding copying, refer to the library’s copyright website.

Most licences only allow for copying to be done in printed format and not electronically. Always check with the library before placing any third party materials on Blackboard.

The University has recently become a member of HERON, a service which allows the digitisation of a wide range of publishers materials - contact the library for further information on this service.

Regarding disability, there are certain exemptions in copyright law where it would not be an infringement of copyright, for example, in making an electronic copy available for a visually impaired person (VIP). However, this would need to be placed in an area where no other students could access it. It is important to note that students suffering from dyslexia are not considered to be visually impaired.
