Teachability

The ‘Teachability’ Project is funded by the Scottish Higher Education Funding Council and managed by Anne Simpson, Head of the Disability Service at the University of Strathclyde. The aim of the project is to promote the creation of an accessible curriculum for all students with disabilities. This aim is supported through the various publications that the Teachability team have developed and which are freely available at:

Teachability website: www.teachability.strath.ac.uk (More information about Teachability can also be accessed at this address).

The Teachability team have held a half day seminar within a few of the schools in the University of the West of Scotland. These seminars are aimed at enabling academic staff to take a very reflective look at their curriculum to identify any potential barriers that may exist within the design and delivery of their courses for students with a disability, to establish what is core to their course and what reasonable adjustments can be made. Schools who have gone through this process have found it extremely useful. It is hoped to continue these seminars into the 2005 - 2006 academic year. Details will be sent out during the course of the year.

The Teachability Team have also held various events in conjunction with the Scottish Disability Team and information about these events can be accessed at:

Scottish Disability Team website: www.sdt.ac.uk

The Action on Access website also offers a wide range of resources, materials and information about disability issues in higher education.
