Teaching Career
Initially Dorothy worked in Nursery and Primary Early-Years classes in schools around Glasgow and Renfrewshire. She also spent some time with Support Services, working with young people with additional support needs. For 10 years she was a manager in Further Education; during this time she was an Associate Assessor with HMIe.
Dorothy is the Programme Leader for the BA Childhood Studies and BA Childhood Practice. She co-ordinates the delivery of programmes in Ayr, Dumfries and Hamilton and with collaborative partners in Coatbridge, Reid Kerr and South Lanarkshire Colleges.
She contributes at wider University level through membership of the Recognition of Prior Learning Committee and the Collaborative Forum. Externally Dorothy is a member of the Childhood Practice Development Group.
Current Teaching
Dorothy delivers a range of lectures and workshops focused on the Early Years through inputs in areas such as equality and inclusion, management, leadership, children’s learning and development, assessment, transition and lifelong learning. She is also a School Experience tutor for B.Ed.3 Early Years and contributes to the Early Years inputs as part of the B.Ed. programme. Dorothy is particularly interested in Equality Inclusion Legislation and Practice.
