Dr. Lisa McAuliffe

BACKGROUND
Dr Lisa McAuliffe trained as a teacher in the English Department of the University of Athens, and worked in primary and secondary schools in Greece and in the UK for over ten years. She has always had an interest in psychology and spent a big part of her teaching career supporting children and young people with social, emotional, behavioural and communication difficulties. She contextualised this experience with a Master in Educational Psychology from the University of Bristol, and a PhD from the University of Warwick. Lisa joined the University of the West of Scotland in 2007 as a Lecturer in Education.
TEACHING & scholarly activity
Since joining the University of the West of Scotland, Lisa has developed and delivered a range of modules exploring inclusive education and psychology of learning topics. Lisa contributes to the BEd, PGDE(P) and PGDE(S) programmes, and is the programme leader of the PG Certificate and PG Diploma in Inclusive Education [click here for link]. In addition, Lisa is involved in the supervision of BEd4 Honours dissertations, and is currently supervising doctoral research in the area of giftedness. Lisa's passion for teaching was recently acknowledged by UWS students with a ‘21st Century Teaching’ award.
Lisa serves on the School of Education Research Committee and on the BEd management team. Lisa is external examiner for the BEd4 Additional Support for Learning option at Edinburgh University and for the PGDE(P) programme at Dundee University.
Lisa was a member of the Scottish Teacher Education Committee’s Inclusion Working Group that developed the Framework for Inclusion and supporting resource bank. Having been an active member of the European Affective Education Network since 1997, Lisa convened the network’s 5th conference on the Greek island of Tinos, and co-convened the network’s 10th conference in UWS.

RESEARCH
Research Activity
Lisa was involved in ‘Affective Education across Europe’, a collaborative research project exploring teacher and student attitudes to affective education in 11 European countries and Israel. This study was partly funded by ESRC and was based at the Warwick Institute of Education. Lisa's ESRC funded doctoral research looked at the contribution primary schools make to the affective development and emotional wellbeing of pupils.
