PGDE (Secondary)
There are 4 periods of school experience on the PGDE (Secondary) course:
Observation Placement
This is a 2 week observational placement which takes place after the students have been on the course for 4 weeks. In session 2011/12 this runs from 19th SEPTEMBER to 30th SEPTEMBER 2011 inclusive.
Teaching Placement 1
This is a 5 week placement with an emphasis on S5/6 and NQ courses. The students are placed in the same school as for the observation placement and receive 1 formative tutor visit. The school report is also formative. In session 2011/12 this runs from 31st OCTOBER to 2nd DECEMBER 2011 inclusive.
Teaching Placement 2
This is a 6 week placement with an emphasis on S3/4. The students receive 1 assessed tutor visit. In session 2011/12 this runs from 30th JANUARY to 9th MARCH 2012 inclusive. N.B. There is a pre-placement visit to schools on Monday 23rd January 2012.
Teaching Placement 3
This is a 5 week placement with an emphasis on S1/2 and CfE courses. The students are placed in the same school as for placement 2 and receive 1 assessed tutor visit. In session 2011/12 this runs from 23rd APRIL to 25th MAY 2012 inclusive.
