Undergraduate & Professional Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE)

The University’s Education programmes, offered through the School of Education, based at University Campus, Ayr are taught at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The School provides a centre of expertise and experience in teaching and learning and reinforces the University's commitment to offering the best, possible learning environment for students.

Continuing Professional Development

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for school teachers after qualification is increasingly important for Scottish school teachers. The School of Education has completed a full review of its CPD provision to introduce a range of new 'Advanced Professional Studies' programmes at Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma and Masters level. This includes the School's innovative Chartered Teacher programme, delivered by e-learning in partnership with the Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS), Learning & Teaching Scotland (LTS), Argyll & Bute Council and South Ayrshire Council.

The School's BEd graduates will have the opportunity to maintain contact with the University over their career through participation in these CPD programmes.

Here's what our students say:

“I came to university from school. Studying at UWS is how I aim to achieve what I want – in five years time
I’d ideally like to be teaching abroad. I’d recommend the location of the campus where I’m studying (Ayr) –
it’s not in the smog of a city, but is still easy to reach.”
Kyle Dudding
Primary Education Student

“The programme equipped me with not only the skills, but the confidence
required to teach in a secondary school. The University’s longstanding
partnership links with schools mean students have a variety of options to choose from when it comes to undertaking in-school placements,
which are a key element of the course.”
