Chartered Teacher Programme
The Chartered Teacher programme is a significant step forward for Scottish teachers offering them opportunities to further their own development, enhance their status and increase their salaries while primarily retaining their focus on the classroom and the pupils they are teaching.
On Monday 19 April 2010, our programme successfully passed through a process of both University revalidation and professional reaccreditation by the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) and you will now be able to locate further details about our revised programme by browsing through the specific areas indicated via the left hand side navigation bar.
Alternatively, to request a hard (paper) copy of the Chartered Teacher information pack or to make a specific enquiry in connection with this programme (only), then please contact the Programme Leader, Linda Lafferty, via email: Linda.Lafferty@uws.ac.uk
Individuals are also welcome to contact the Programme Leader in the event they have already embarked on a Chartered Teacher programme with a different provider but are perhaps now considering 'opting in' to our programme. This is so that we might advise you of your study options in light of the fact that our modules carry a different credit point rating to other accredited providers.
(When contacting the Programme Leader in this respect please include details of how much modular credit you have already accrued and where).
Note: Please make the subject line of your email quite clear with regard to your request to ensure that it is not filtered out or held for manual checking as part of University email protocols
Additional note:
Q. Does the Inclusive Education Pathway, the Modern Languages course, Leadership for Learning, MEd Artist Teacher and/or the Inclusive Movement Pathway count towards Chartered Teacher?
A. Not directly. That is to say, there is no direct transfer of credit between any of these pathways and the Chartered Teacher programme.
Teachers who are eligible to undertake a Chartered Teacher programme could however decide to make a partial APL/APEL claim against the Chartered Teacher Standard and use their Inclusive Education/Modern Languages/Inclusive Movement/Artist Teacher award as part of such a claim.
To undertake such a claim they would first be required to meet the eligibility requirements associated with the wider Chartered Teacher initiative (as set out by the GTCS) and thereafter to undertake the mandatory Chartered Teacher core module "Module 1, Reflective Practice".
