The School's working relationship with overseas institutions include:

Denmark
Socrates-Erasmus

Student exchange with Haslev Seminarium, Denmark and Holbaek Seminarium, Denmark, since 1997. In the last two years, there have been 7 outgoing students and 3 students from Denmark.

Socrates

Staff exchanges with Haslev and Holbaek Seminariums, Denmark. In the last two years, there has been one outgoing member of staff to supervise School of Education students; and two members of staff from Denmark, supervising students, visiting schools and guest lecturing.

China
Continuing Professional Development Programme

From October to December 2002 for group of 8 Chinese Head Teachers from Shenzhen Province. This included dedicated inputs on the Scottish education system, visits to primary and secondary schools and Further Education colleges, and cultural outings. It is planned to develop the link established with Shenzhen.

Denmark, England, Iceland & Portugal
COMENIUS

Accompanying Measures Project, with European partners from Austria, Denmark, England, Iceland and Portugal. The project is to write a guide for delivering effective COMENIUS inservice courses. The project began in 2002 and the guide 'Growing together in Europe' will be published in autumn 2004.

The United States (Georgia)
Study Programme Exchanges

Collaboration with Tift College of Education, Mercer University, Georgia. Planning meeting with staff in March 2004. Visit of staff and students in May 2004. This involved seminars from School of Education staff on the Scottish education system, and school and cultural visits. It is planned to develop two-way exchanges.

SPAIN
ERASMUS

Formal working links with the University of Jaén.

European Working Parties
  • Involvement in an EU working party in the context of CiCe, Children's Identity and Citizenship in Europe. This network is chaired by Prof. A. Ross, of London Metropolitan University.
  • Collaboration with European academics in writing a booklet for all EU member states in relation to Ethical Supervision Guidelines for Research Degrees, to address both supervisors and students. This project may continue until 2008.
