Religion and Belief

The University is committed to fair and equal treatment of all students and staff irrespective of their religion or belief. This includes the right to hold no belief.

As a result the University has reviewed the procedures which allow staff and students of all faiths and beliefs (including those of none) to use University facilities for a period of prayer or quiet reflection. The following facilities are available on UWS campuses:

  • Ayr:

Contact person is Nicola Clark, telephone 01292.886248, email nicola.clark@uws.ac.uk to book a general room for prayer or contemplation.

  • Dumfries:

Staff who wish to use a private room for times of private reflection will have access to Room 2087 in Dumfries and Galloway College. Access is through Helen Cronie on 734254 or cronieh@dumgal.ac.uk

  • Hamilton:

Room A832C will be the Space of Contemplation. If any member of staff or any student wishes to access the room and it is locked then a key will be available either from Sharon Moorhouse in room A836 or from Security on the ground floor of the Almada Building.

  • Paisley:

Room K109 will be used as a temporary Space of Contemplation for UWS students and staff. Booking will be handled through Student Services in J219. Contact Student Link on 0141.848.3803 or email slpaisley@uws.ac.uk
