Respecting Diversity- Promoting Equality

UWS Equality Scheme

The UWS Equality Scheme has been produced as a result of a review of existing Equality, Diversity and Human Rights initiatives and priorities and a desire to bring together our work on all areas of equality and diversity.

The new Scheme builds on our history of positive responses to the Equality and Diversity agenda and aims to:

  • Promote equality, dignity, respect and understanding across all equality groups, recognising that people have multiple equality identities
  • Attract a diverse range of talented people to study and work at the University
  • Create a culture which values diversity and individual differences
  • Promote an environment that encourages and supports all staff and students to engage with the University and realise their full potential

In addition to meeting the requirements of existing Equality Legislation the key drivers in developing the Scheme were:

  • The need to mainstream equality and diversity into UWS process e.g. Strategic Planning, Quality Enhancement, Academic delivery
  • The need to address widening participation and internationalisation agendas
  • The desire to develop a more inclusive curriculum for all UWS students

The Equality Scheme contains our Equality and Diversity priorities for 2010- 2013 and is supported by the actions in the Implementation Plan.
