"As a fully qualified fitness instructor, I have extensive experience of the practical side to the health and fitness industry. I had been running classes for nine years and felt it was time I moved my career in a different direction. I completed an HND in Health, Fitness & Education at Cardonald College, which gave me the incentive to embark on the BSc Sports Studies course.

It's been hard work but I'm really enjoying the challenge. The teaching and assessment methods at University are very different from those I had experienced at college but the staff on the course have been very supportive and encouraging.

Most of our practical teaching is done at the University's sports centre at Thornly Park, a short distance from the main campus. The facilities are excellent. I'm enjoying the breadth of subjects we cover on the course, from looking at the health and fitness industry as a business, to examining how people's attitudes to sport have changed over the years.

When I graduate, I'm hoping to take my practical and academic experience back into the classroom. I want to move into lecturing at a further education college, although I'm not planning on giving up my classes entirely, I enjoy them too much! "
