Costs and Living Arrangements
There is no money that can be used to pay you or to support you while you are here at Paisley. You will be registered as a visiting student which will give you access to the library and computing facilities here. The University of the West of Scotland will award you academic credit for your placement and we will liaise with your home University to provide credit there. There are no costs associated with enrolling you as a student.
Concerning the costs of living at Paisley. We will try to arrange for you to rent a University of the West of Scotland student flat, but we can't guarantee accommodation. You will probably share this flat with up to 6 other students of the same sex. You will have your own bedroom and will share a kitchen. lounge and toilet/shower with the others in your flat. The cost of this is around ?48 per week. On top of this there are living expenses. It is suggested that you budget around ?50 per week for this. Other expenses are travel to and from Paisley and any entertainment/tourism that you might want to do while you are here.
The University flats are provided with bedding and cutlery. Bedding includes sheets, duvet, pillow and pillowcase. Bedding is cleaned and replaced around once per week. Cutlery includes knife, fork, spoon, plate, cup and bowl. There are no cooking utensils (pots, pans, baking trays etc.) provided but usually you will find that previous students have left cooking utensils. If you are unlucky you may find no cooking utensils have been left you will need to provide your own.
Most likely you will be in the Thornly Park Residence. This residence is located around 4 miles (6 km) from the campus. There is a regular bus service between the town centre and Thornly Park. This costs around ?2 per day but you can buy a travel pass to reduce the cost. The Thornly Park Residence has a sports centre at the site that costs ?0.50 per session.
