Stages: Placements for Foreign Students
Placement Study Subjects
Placement study subjects are agreed between you, the student and the person or persons supervising your project. In most cases you will be working on your own or with another student. It has been found from previous students that the best placements take place when there are 2 or 3 students working on related projects. Having a friend or two with you means that you are able to seek help and advice from them. Furthermore, as you are likely to be here in the summer when there are few full time students around things get a bit lonely if you are on your own.
You can expect basic support from your supervisor. Typically this will mean a initial meeting of up to 2 hours to explain the project to you. Then probably every two weeks you will meet with them again to review progress and address problems. Most lecturers take their holidays during the summer so there will be times when there is no one around to give you support. Near the end of the placement you will be asked to make a presentation on the work you have carried out.
Typically, your home University will ask you to prepare a report on your placement. This work is to be done in parallel with the work you do here at Paisley and is additional to your work for the placement lecturer or professor.
