The Finance Office supports the academic Schools in the provision of teaching and research activities. The strategic aim of the Finance Office is to devise and implement a financial strategy that will deliver the resources to underpin the University's academic developments.

More specifically the Finance Office aims to provide an efficient service in respect of the collection of income, payment of suppliers and staff. The provision of timely and accurate financial information and compliance with all relevant internal and external guidelines and reporting requirements are also key objectives. To achieve these aims the Finance Office is structured as follows :

Directorate

This section oversees the operation of the Finance Office and is responsible for providing the information necessary to provide strong financial management within the University.

Financial Administration

This section is responsible for the collection of all income due to the University including the collection of tuition fees and accommodation charges. Additionally, this section is responsible for all associated banking transactions and the payment of suppliers for services provided to the University.

Accounting Support

This section is responsible for the production of the Financial Statements and the implementation of strong budgetary control and reporting within the University. Specific functions undertaken include external applications for research funding and commercial activities. Direct accounting support to the University of the West of Scotland Students Association and the development and implementation of full economic costing, policies and procedures is also undertaken.

Payroll and Systems Support

This section comprises of two elements - payroll services and systems support. The former works in conjunction with the Human Resources department to ensure the timely and correct payment of staff. The latter provides support to existing and developing systems and is currently enhancing purchasing procedures.
