Q: How do I pay my tuition fees? 

You can pay your fees:

  • on-line on the University’s on-line payment facility
  • phone +44 (0) 141 848 3197 / 3186 / 3203 with your debit/credit card details
  • call into the cash office to pay by cash, cheque or debit/credit card
    by bank transfer, please contact Jackie Cusworth on +44 (0) 141 848 3197
  • send a cheque payable to ‘The University of the West of Scotland’ to:

  • Please quote your Banner Number and Name on all transactions.

Q: How do I know that my payment was made?

Confirmation of payment will be given by the University:

  • electronically to the email address provided if you pay on-line
  • a receipt will be handed to you if you pay in person
  • if you pay by bank transfer, postal cheque or electronically by phone then confirmation is only given on request.  Any payment can be traced by you through your bank or credit card company.

ENROLMENT PROCEDURE

Q: I owe money to the University from a previous session, can I still enrol for the next academic session?
           
All outstanding balances from previous years must be cleared before you can enrol for the next academic session.  If you believe that you owe the University money from a previous year please contact the Finance Office on +44 (0) 141 848 3197 / 3186 / 3203 to arrange to clear the balance prior to enrolment.

SELF FINANCING STUDENTS
 
Q: I am a self-financing student Home/EU, what will I need to pay at the time of my scheduled enrolment?

You will be required to pay a deposit equivalent to one standard priced module on enrolment unless you are taking a discounted module in which case the payment required will be less. 

Q: Can I pay my deposit online prior to coming to my enrolment session?

Yes, you can make your payment by Please visit the Finance Office student homepage and click on the Online Payment link.  You must bring a copy of the email confirmation to your enrolment session. 

Q: If I am enrolling for more that one module how can I pay the balance of my fees?

You can either pay the balance of your fees in full at enrolment or by instalments. 

If you are enrolling in person and wish to pay the balance of your tuition fees by instalments the Fees Team will set up a recurring debit or credit card payment plan on the University’s online payment facility for you at enrolment. 

If you are enrolling by post and wish to pay the balance of your tuition fees by instalments you can set up a payment plan on the University’s online payment facility yourself or provide the Finance Office with your debit or credit card details (either by post or over the phone) and the Finance Office will set up a payment plan for you.

Q: I am enrolling by post, how do I know what the instalment options are?

Instalment options vary depending on the number of modules you are studying and which trimester you are studying in.  For more information on the instalment options available to you see our payment plans or contact the Finance Office by email on fees@uws.ac.uk or by phone  +44 (0) 141 848 3196 / 3190 / 3351

Q: I am a Home/EU student, can I pay my tuition fees in instalments?

Yes, you can pay your tuition fees by instalment but only if you have paid one standard priced module deposit and set up a recurring payment on the University’s online payment facility.  For more information on the instalment options available to you and how to set up a recurring payment on the online payment system contact Finance.

Q: How much extra do I pay if I decide to pay by instalment?
           
The University does not charge for payment by instalment.

ONLINE PAYMENTS

Q: Can I pay my tuition and accommodation fees online?

Yes, the Finance Office has an online payment facility for students whereby you can pay your tuition and accommodation fees online.  The online payment facility will allow you to make a single, one-off payment or set up a recurring payment in the same way as a Direct Debit using your debit or credit card details.

Q: Which cards are accepted?

Most debit and credit cards.

Q: Can any person make a payment towards my tuition fees or accommodation charges?

Yes, not only can you make payments via the online payment facility, any member of your family or friends can make a payment on your behalf. 

Q: What information is required to set up a payment plan online?

Your student number needs to be entered, this must be entered without the ‘B’ eg 00000000

DOB, address, telephone number of card holder, card details, email address, tuition fee and / or accommodation charges.

Q: If I have inadvertently entered the incorrect details or amount what should I do?

Select the ‘Back’ option and amend details accordingly, then continue by selecting the ‘Next’ option.

Q: How will I receive my receipt?  How will I know that I have successfully set up a payment on the online payment facility? 

If you have entered a valid email address, you will receive an email confirming the amount paid.  If you have set up a recurring payment plan, you will receive details of the payment dates.
If you have not entered a valid email address a confirmation letter will be posted to you.

Q: What will happen if my payment is unauthorised?  Is not successful? 

You will receive a notification advising you that the transaction will be actioned within 72 hours.

Q: What should I do if payment is still unauthorised at this point?

Please telephone the Finance Office.

SAAS/SLC FUNDED STUDENTS

Q: I am a full-time student and I am applying to SAAS (or SLC if English/Welsh/Northern Irish) for payment of my tuition fees, what do I need on enrolment?
           
Ideally, you will need to provide the Finance Office with a copy of your Award letter on or prior to your enrolment session. 

If you have applied to SAAS (or SLC) but have not received your Award letter by the time of your enrolment session you will need to print off confirmation of your online application to SAAS (or SLC) and provide a copy of that confirmation to the Finance Office on enrolment.  You will be provisionally enrolled on the basis of having provided confirmation of your online application.  In order to complete your enrolment, you will need to provide Finance Office with a copy of your Award letter by the following cut off dates:

1 November (September intake)
1 March (February intake)

If you do not provide the Finance Office with a copy of your Award letter by the cut off dates above you will be invoiced for the full amount of your tuition fees. 

Q: What will happen if I do not have my Award letter or confirmation of my online application at the time of my scheduled enrolment session?

If you are unable to supply a confirmation or Award letter, you will be treated as a self-financing student and will have to pay a one module deposit to enrol.  This amount will be refunded on receipt of your Award letter.

Q: When can I apply to SAAS for my tuition fee payment?

You can apply to SAAS from April 2010 by visiting www.saas.gov.uk

Q: Will there be SAAS paper applications for academic year 10/11?

No, you will only be able to apply online for session 10/11.

Q: What should I do if my online account has been disabled?

You will need to contact SAAS as soon as possible to reactivate your online account.  Please note that it can take SAAS 6 weeks to reply to emails during busy periods.

COMPANY SPONSORED STUDENTS

Q: I am being sponsored by my Employer, what am I required to bring with me to my scheduled enrolment?

A Purchase Order or letter on Company letterhead addressed to the University of the West of Scotland clearly stating that your Employer will pay your tuition fees.

OVERSEAS STUDENTS

Q: I am an Overseas student paying my tuition fees in full am I entitled to a discount?

A 10% discount on full time Undergraduate / Postgraduate programmes is offered to international students. Eligibility conditions apply.  Please visit the Finance Office website for conditions.

Q: I am an Overseas student, can I pay my tuition fee in instalments?

You can elect to pay your tuition fees in two 50% instalments. The first instalment of 50% is due on or prior to your enrolment.  The second instalment of 50% is due on or prior to 28 January (September intake) or 28 August (February intake).

ACCOMMODATION

Q: How much are my accommodation fees? 

There are a number of University accommodation options available to students.  Fees vary depending on which halls of residence or which flats students are allocated.  Once you have accepted your accommodation allocation you will be sent an invoice showing what you accommodation fees are. 

Q: If I am staying in University accommodation, can I pay in instalments?

Yes, the university has payment plans available.

WITHDRAWAL PROCEDURE AND PRO RATA CHARGES

Q: How do I withdraw from my module / course?
If for any reason you decide to withdraw from your module or course then you must do the following :-

  • Advise your course tutor
  • Write to the Student Administration office giving your last date of attendance
  • Write to the Finance Office giving your last date of attendance
  • If you are staying in University accommodation, please inform the accommodation unit
