Health, Nursing & Midwifery

Welcome

Welcome to the School of Health, Nursing and Midwifery Website. Here you will find information about our teaching, research and other educational activities.

The School of Health Nursing and midwifery, the largest in Scotland, has around 4,100 full and part-time students studying across the University campuses in Ayr, Dumfries, Hamilton and Paisley and online.

We offer pre-registration preparation at Higher Education Diploma and Degree level in Adult Nursing and Mental Health Nursing and Midwifery at Degree level.

In addition, we provide post-basic courses and coursesup to Masters level in Nursing, Midwifery and related topics.

Increasingly we use Open / Distance Learning approaches to provision, which are very popular. We have a wide range of options tailored to meet the needs of carers. Our Midwifery Directorate was the UK's first University Department to recieve a Cetificate of Commitment for a UNICEF baby friendly award. Particular developments within the School relate to Palliative Care, Community Care, Care of the Older Person, the use of Psychosocial and Psychotherapeutic Interventions and Unscheduled Care.

"One of our real strengths is the quality of the relationship between students and staff, especially important when students are on clinical placement."
