Welcome to UWS Library! SERVICES FOR DISTANCE LEARNERS

Please view our slideshow presentation for new students.

The presentation introduces you to the resources and services that the library has to offer. See also the guides and presentations in the Quick Links section on the right of this page, and the Guides and Online Help link on the left hand menu. All of our resources are also available from My UWS Library on Blackboard where you will find even more online help. For more about My UWS Library on Blackboard, see the end of this page.

Each campus has Subject Librarians who will often take you for classes during your modules to introduce you to different aspects of Information Literacy. You can also contact your Subject Librarian for help in using and finding resources and materials. Two or three students can be seen together in a tutorial if you want to come with a friend. Click on the link to find out how to contact your Subject Librarian.

Our web pages offer you access to general information about the library, to services that we offer, to our library catalogue, to electronic resources and to guides and online help.

  • To find out about opening hours, borrowing information, contact details, etc, click on General Information on the left hand menu.
  • To look for stock on the library shelves - books, print journals, CD's, DVD's, etc., click on Library Catalogue.
  • To access our electronic resources to look for articles on your topic, electronic books and electronic journals, click on e-Resources and Athens.

Library PIN Number

When you activate your library card you will be given a 4 digit PIN number. This allows you to log onto the My Account tab on the Library Catalogue. On My Account you can renew your books online and make requests for stock from other UWS campuses, or make reservations for stock that is already out on loan.

My UWS Library on Blackboard

Blackboard is the UWS Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) where your lecturers will put your modules and course materials. The Library has a Blackboard space called My UWS Library that everyone in the University has access to. You will find it below your list of modules. New students are added to My UWS Library on a weekly basis, so if you do not have a link to us when you first go onto to Blackboard, you can self-enrol on the left hand side of the Blackboard screen. Log on to Blackboard with your banner number. Your password is your 6 digit date of birth.
