School of Creative and Cultural Industries Home

The School of Creative and Cultural Industries has grown from 40 students in 1996 to over 700 today. Media was the first degree programme, with Commercial Music and Cinema being launched in 2001. The Languages degree was added to the School's portfolio in 2003. Due to merger the School now additionally offers programmes in Journalism, Broadcast Journalism and Corporate Communication.

None of these degree programmes could operate without excellent facilities. The facilities at the University are equalled only by those of the broadcast and media industries.

At the Ayr Campus there are two TV studios, four radio studios, a fully operational radio station, digital editing suites and much more. Language students at the Paisley campus have access to the Language Centre with a suite of computers and facilities for watching language DVDs and videos. The Hamilton Campus has two fully equipped studios, a newsroom and two Apple Mac labs.

Students on the School's degree programmes enjoy a wide variety of learning experiences from hands-on learning to the more traditional methods. The School has very good relationships with industry and enjoys the luxury of having guest lecturers from many areas of media.

In Year 3 across all degree programmes, students have the opportunity to go out into the workplace and experience the real world. We arrange placements for students and have over 370 placement partners across all areas of the media and music industry. This is part of the unique School experience.

The student experience is something that is very important to us and we have set up a guidance system that allows students access to relevant members of staff to discuss academic progress and any personal difficulties that may arise. No-one said that University life is easy: students in the School will work hard but the experience will be very enjoyable and worthwhile.

This is a very exciting time for us as we grow and develop and we hope that you will join us and share in the experience.
