UP-AND-COMING SCOTTISH BAND OFFERS ADVICE TO UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

18 February 2008

Attics Lights.Up-and-coming Scottish band Attic Lights helped fellow budding artists through a Q&A session and performance at the University of the West of Scotland’s Paisley Campus on Friday 15 February 2008.

To an audience of the University’s Commercial Music and Music Technology students, the five-piece band performed three acoustic versions of their tracks and held a Q&A session, which gave students a first-hand insight into the competitive Scottish music scene.

The University’s music degrees combine theory with practical experience and include, amongst other areas, project work in managing and developing bands and in running successful music events.

Attic Lights, recently signed to Island Records, are managed by Francis MacDonald, former member of Teenage Fanclub.

The band - Kev Sherry (vocals, guitar), Colin McArdle (vocals, bass), Jamie Houston (guitar, vocals), Tim Davidson (guitar) and Noel O'Donnell (drums, vocals) - released their new single ‘Never get sick of the sea’ on 4 February.

Allan Dumbreck of the University’s School of Creative and Cultural Industries, who has 20 years’ experience of contemporary music education and is the editor of the Music Education Directory, said: “We were delighted that Attic Lights were able to fit this performance into their schedule and give our students an insight into getting a break in the music industry.

"We aim to give our students practical and valuable advice and learning, including input from representatives of the creative industries. This event undoubtedly benefited our students and gave them the opportunity to meet one of Scotland’s emerging bands."
