Profile

Marcus has taught Radio Production since 1996, and has undertaken industrial placements with BBC Scotland and Scottish Radio Holdings stations, while developing ongoing relationships with other Scottish radio stations such as WestSound and XFM/Galaxy, and radio companies such as SCORE Digitial and Arquiva.

As well as creating the University’s radio station, broadcasting on its own DAB channel, Marcus has been responsible for the partnership which created a clutch of local health-related RSL radio stations, and the Radio for Health project, in conjunction with Ayrshire and Arran Primary Healthcare Trust and local Ayrshire councils.

He has managed a number of video projects for councils, local agencies and companies, and has developed and produced a set of video-based sound poems for publication by the University of London’s Multimedia Lab.

A lifelong educator, Marcus joined the School of Media at its inception, and has been involved in teaching, course development and management across the School, as well as contributing to the wider work of the University as a whole. Having completed a Doctoral thesis in 2002, on the effects of wordprocessing on the writing process, Marcus’s research interests include the cognitive aspects of teaching, technology and radio.
