Evidence-based Practice in Substance Use
the Appliance of Science

Conference Location: The Erskine Bridge Hotel, Erskine, Nr Paisley
Conference Date: 9th and 10th September 2004

Background

Although CADS and ANSA have long had informal links, this was the first time that they have come together on a formal basis. The occasion was the 25th Anniversary of the opening of the Centre for Alcohol and Drug Studies as a national resource for education in the study of addiction. To celebrate this achievement CADS and ANSA were please to host an International Conference. CADS has run two highly successful international conferences in 1999 and 2001 while ANSA have been responsible for running successful conferences for many years. Jointly we brought to the conference a range of excellent, internationally renowned speakers from both practice in substance use: the appliance of science. Over two days we examined how we could apply science at the population level (policy) and the individual level (treatment).

Conference Aims

The aims of the conference were broad, they were to discuss:

  • Recent evidence and its implications for drugs and alcohol policy
  • Recent evidence and its implications for drugs and alcohol treatment
