Undergraduate Course Modules

The Alcohol and Drug Studies are involved in teaching into two undergraduate level 3 modules for BSc Health Studies, School of Health, Nursing and Midwifery. These modules are:

  • Alcohol Drugs and Addiction
  • Alcohol Drugs and Prevention

Alcohol, Drugs and Addictions (Nursing Related)

This stand-alone level 3 module is worth 15 CAT points and equips the student with an introduction into the concept of addition. It explores the various theoretical frameworks seeking to explain addiction and then suggests how teh various theories of addiction drive how we intervene at the individual and society level.

Alcohol, Drugs: Policy and Prevention (Nursing Related)

This stand alone level 3 module is worth 15 CAT points and gives the student an understanding of prevention policy as it relates to alcohol and drugs and blood borne viruses. It informs the student to critically appraise how models of addiction inform prevention policy. Policy is also examined in an international context, comparing Dutch, USA and UK current social policy on alcohol and drugs.
