Dr Duncan Sim is Reader in Sociology at the University of the West of Scotland. Previously he worked in housing practice and taught for many years on the postgraduate Housing Studies programme at the University of Stirling. He has undertaken extensive research on black and minority ethnic groups, including asylum seekers, refugees and migrant workers, for a variety of funders including the Scottish Executive, local government, Joseph Rowntree Foundation and the voluntary sector. He served for ten years on the Scotland Board of the Chartered Institute of Housing, including three years as Secretary. He has been a member for seven years of the Board of Key Housing Association, which provides housing and support for people with learning disabilities.
