Social Sciences Home
The School of Social Sciences has approximately 42 academic staff and approaching 800 full-time equivalent students. Our key strengths lie in:
The School offers undergraduate programmes in Psychology (BA and BSc programmes with British Psychological Society accreditation), Sociology and Social Work, as well as criminal justice and politics. In addition, we have substantial numbers of Masters students, studying for postgraduate qualifications in vocationally relevant fields. These include Alcohol and Drug Studies and Careers Guidance. In consequence, the School has close relationships with employers and professional bodies in health care, social work, the careers service and elsewhere.
The School contributes strongly to programmes hosted by other Schools in the University. These include Health Studies, Pre-Registration Nursing and Midwifery and Sports Studies. Our emphasis on strength in individual disciplines as a foundation for cross-discipline teaching and research applies both within the School and in our relations with other Schools.
