Staff Profile

Dr Neil McPherson is a Lecturer in Sociology at the University of the West of Scotland. He joined the University in August of 2006 and lectures in the areas of health, illness and medicine, social theory, research methods, art & culture, and human/nonhuman animal relations. He was awarded his PhD by Glasgow Caledonian University in 2010, with his thesis entitled, “Destabilising the discourse of vivisection:a Foucauldian archaeology/genealogy of human/nonhuman animal association”. He is currently undertaking further research in the area of his PhD and has recently delivered a n Honours year module entitled 'Sociology and Human/Nonhuman Animal Relations' as part of this focus. He is also interested in the use of electronic learning and assessment technologies, which he uses widely in module delivery.
