Hamilton Assistive Technology Suites

The Assistive Technology Suites at the Hamilton Campus are now open. They are located in the Beckford building, directly opposite the Student Services reception.

The suites are equipped with networked printers, CCTV facilities and height adjustable desks. We also have 6 new HP PC’s which have all been upgraded to include 22” monitors and 4GB RAM. The PC’s are also networked.

We currently have the following software available for student use:

Zoomtext: Screen Magnification software that enlarges and enhances everything on the computer screen, making applications easy to see and use.

Window-eyes & Jaws: Screen reading software that announces all screen activity and reads documents, spreadsheets and web pages via clear synthesized speech output.

Omni-Page: Scanning software that converts any printed document into an electronic Word document or Excel spreadsheet.

Inspiration: Software to visually plan and organise topics into writing - features an extensive catalogue of images/graphics.

Dragon: Speech recognition software which allows users to dictate, edit and control text and applications such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Internet Explorer.

Students who are in receipt of support from the Enabling Support Team can book time to use these facilities by telephoning (01698 894448), or by visiting the Student Services reception in the Beckford building.
