ENABLING SUPPORT – POLICY DOCUMENTS
The University of the West of Scotland is committed to the provision of an inclusive learning environment, which promotes equality of opportunity and full participation for all students who apply for, or who are attending courses within the University. The University is continually working pro-actively to identify and eliminate all forms of disability discrimination, and to continually improve available resources and services to ensure an inclusive learning and teaching environment.
To that end, the University aims to work within the guidelines outlined within the 2010 Equality Act to create and implement a suitable Equality Scheme which will ensure that all of the institution’s internal structures are designed to help the University meet its commitment to the provision of equal access and reasonable adjustments for all disabled learners.
The Equality Scheme is designed to ensure that no person who applies to attend, or who is already attending a course of study is discriminated against as a result of a disability, illness or learning difficulty. Indeed, it is the aim of the University to promote equality of opportunity for all, and to widen access to include those students whom, for whatever reason, may require additional forms of support to allow them to fully engage in the education process.
