More about the team

Hilary Groom, Counsellor, Paisley & Dumfries

I have been a counsellor at the University since April 2001.  I completed the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy Accredited Diploma in Person Centred Counselling at the University of Strathclyde in 2000. My background is in community-based adult learning and in youth work.

I became interested in counselling several years ago after experiencing the benefits of using a counsellor when I felt unable to work through personal issues on my own. I have found counselling to be a very positive and affirming experience.

As a person-centred counsellor, my priority is to offer you a safe and confidential setting in which you can bring the issues and problems as you see them. I aim to create a collaborative relationship in which you as the client are able to explore issues at your own pace and in a way that allows you to determine how to move forward in your life.

Jacquie Sharp, Counsellor, Hamilton & Paisley

Jacquie provides counselling in Hamilton and in Paisley.

Bernie Morran, Counsellor, Ayr & Paisley

I have been a counsellor at the University since February 1999. I came shortly after completing the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy Accredited Diploma in Person Centred Counselling at the University of Strathclyde. Previously, I worked as a psychiatric social worker and as a social work lecturer. My interest in counselling has developed through sometimes experiencing my own life as difficult and stressful. Counselling has helped me to reflect on my experience, and to become more at ease with myself. It has been a valuable support to my personal development.

In working with you as a counsellor, I aim to support you as carefully as I am able by listening and responding to you and your concerns.  As you reflect on whatever aspects of your life you choose, I aim to offer understanding, acceptance, and, simply, the fullness of my own humanity.

The ReceptionTeam

The team of student counsellors is supported on each campus by a group of professional receptionists. These important members of the team share with the counsellors a commitment to protect the confidentiality of every aspect of your use of the counseling service with the greatest of care.
