Graduate Job Prospects

You may have noticed recent media reporting about graduate jobs. While it is true that the market is challenging just now, the results of some recent surveys are more encouraging than the coverage suggests. For example

  • In June the Association of Graduate Recruiters (AGR) found that 50% of the employers they surveyed still had graduate job vacancies to fill and more than 40% were planning to increase their graduate intake.
  • High Fliers found that on average there are fewer applicants per job vacancy this year than there were in 2009
  • High Fliers also found that one in five of the employers they interviewed were expecting to increase the number of graduates they recruit over the next year and half plan to maintain current recruitment rates
  • The number of new job vacancies notified to Scottish Universities’ this year is up on the same period last year.

So, if you are looking for work our advice is to be positive. There are jobs out there despite what you might think from press reports. In fact, as of today we have over 330 graduate job vacancies posted on our online system.

We are also here to help you find a job. Through the University’s Careers Service we can support you in your job search helping you to work out a strategy and articulate what you have to offer in a CV, application or interview. This free service is available to you for up to two years after you finish your studies.
