Confidentiality
We take the issue of confidentiality very seriously and Student Services will assure privacy and confidentiality to all users of the service.
The funding and advice team, as part of Student Services, provide this service in a confidential and impartial manner. With the user's full knowledge, a record of any enquiry, appointment or telephone conversation will be kept, as well as any advice given and action taken.
Staff of this team may consult with other professional staff within the University in order to ensure that the best possible support is offered. Other than with the express permission of the user, nothing learned from the user will be disclosed to any person outwith Student Services.
Only in exceptional circumstances, where there are good grounds for believing that the user will be a danger to him/herself or to others or have harm caused to him/her or where there is a legal duty, may confidentiality be broken.
The funding and advice team also collate statistical data to help monitor the service it provides. The monitoring figures are used in such a way that it is not possible for them to be associated with individual users, which would breach confidentiality.
If you are in any way concerned about our practices in relation to confidential, please contact us.
